Takeaway
- Perusing the negative generates positivity for example: the pain of exercise brings overall better; being open with your insecurities paradoxically makes you more confident
- Disappointment Panda: tells you the hard truth such as:
- your actions don’t really matter that much in the grad scheme of things
- we are mediocre
- Value of suffering: we are all going to suffer so might as well suffer for something we like
Exercise: choose something that bothers me.
Why does it bother me?
Why does that seem true?
Why does this ‘truth’ insinuate my initial bother?
Moral: this helps to identify two things: a value I go by and a metric I use to assess that value.
- how to set value? Shitty vs good?
- shitty is pleasure, material, always being right and staying super positive for ex: being the most popular person in the party?
- good is reality based, immediate such as honestly, standing up for oneself, curiosity
- Choose your suffering! Claim responsibility for everything* in your life.
- To Change your value and metric in which you assess your values are as simple as choosing to give a fuck about something else. It’s simple, not easy.
- you will feel like shit. It’s normal. You will feel like a failure. It’s uncomfortable.
- “The more something threatens your identity, the more you will avoid it”
- Question yourself:
- what if I’m wrong?
- what would it mean if I am wrong? Would it hurt others?
- would bring wrong create a better or a worse problem than my current situation, for both myself and others?
- You don’t know what you’re doing so there’s nothing to lose ever.
- Action —> inspiration —> motivation
- Healthy relationships: ppl solve their own problems and feel good about each other. Nobody needs to solve someone else’s problem
- Facing death in the face is what is needed to feel alive.
- WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE so if we accept that fact, then it becomes a light for our live in order to live fully
- Death is the only certain thing in our lives so that becomes the compass.
