The Novice: A Story of True Love is about a young woman called Kinh Tam who disguises herself as a man to pursue the life of a Buddhist monk. Though, living a man’s life for much of Kinh Tam’s time – she displays courage, endurance, curiosity and empowerment as a feminist.
“The Housekeeper and the Professor” by Yoko Ogawa explores a delicate interaction between math and human interactions. Ogawa weaves an unique narrative between her characters, the housekeeper, her son, Root, and the professor that transcends time and memory.
The Annual Migration of Clouds by Premee Mohamed, takes place in Canada where the Earth is no longer recognizable the way we know it now. Reid, the protagonist in the story and the antagonist within herself, deals with a new disease caused by fungi called Cad.
Season 2 of Bridgerton will famously go down in history as it allowed exposure and opened doors for south Asian women in Hollywood. This will bring upon changes in Bollywood as well (or at least, I’m hoping). This season is truly a masterpiece, tackling a multitude of themes: cultural importance, sisterhood, intimacy, familial expectations as well as bringing into light some south Asian toxicity.
